Bug Protection For Your Car 31
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 31st, 2009

Here in the southern U.S., we residents are used to a bug population that can only make an anteater smack his lips. From about early April to the first frost, bugs outnumber people about 1000 to 1. Some would say 1 million to 1. Quite frankly, bugs are everywhere: in the yard, in the house, on your car, etc. Products containing DEET help, but they can do nothing to protect your car. Think I am exaggerating? Just drive down any southern back road at dusk and see how long it takes for your windshield and hood to be splattered with bug juice. It can get so bad that no amount of windshield washer fluid can keep up with it all. What to do? Well, if you are like many motorists you get some protection for your car. No, I am not saying to spray it with a can of OFF! or drive around with a car cover on it. Instead, there are two must have accessories that can and will make a difference. Youll have to read on to find out just what I am talking about.

Car bras Some call them hood protectors while others call them car bras. Regardless, this particular accessory provides the greatest protection for the front end of most any passenger vehicle. Customized for your vehicle, car bras slip over the front end, covering the grille and the adjoining section of the hood. Some car bras are designed to extend further up the hood almost to the windshield. Some consist of two part sections that permit motorists to access the hood without taking off the bra, while others are a one piece accessory that must be removed before opening the hood. Both styles are effective in deflecting bugs from the grille and can protect a portion of the hood.

Bug deflectors Also called bug shields, bug deflectors function chiefly to guard your hood and windshield from bug debris. Furthermore, some bug deflectors can repel other small objects including stones kicked up from the road which can then break your windshield. A bug deflector is installed at the top part of your grille at the point where the grille meets the front part of your vehicles hood. Like car bras, bug deflectors are sized for the particular brand and model you own, though there are some models that can be custom cut and sized by consumers too. Typically, a heavy-duty double adhesive tape fastens the deflector in place, as a result no drilling is required.

Usually, drivers put in one or the other accessory on their vehicles and not both as a bug deflector must adhere to the car itself; it cannot stay in place if fastened to part of the bra. However, some bras are designed with a lip installed that sits across the hood of your vehicle, acting as a mini bug deflector all of its own.

So, if you live in the South or you are planning a trip down here, protect your vehicle before you leave your home. A car bra or a bug shield will do a very good job in reducing bug splatter and keep you from going through gallons of windshield washer fluid while protecting your cars finish.

This new report holds information that has been updated and with information recently gathered. Readers could also find a very detailed overview on the status of the worldwide market of biofuel.

Biodiesel is a form of biofuel. In fact, this could actually replace diesel. However, this one comes from natural and biological supplies. Because of such a nature, biodiesel can be used readily in most vehicles holding engines that run on diesel. With the newest technologies and upgrades in science, biodiesel can be easily distributed throughout the world. In fact, biodiesel is becoming one of the major sources of fuel for vehicle. This could be a solution to the whole gas price problem for it can be produced right in the comforts of your own home.

Brand Dilution: GM’s Real Problem 31
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 31st, 2009

Throughout General Motor’s post World War II history, the company has managed to sell various products across its entire line up, thereby offering visitors to its showrooms a wide variety of models. This custom of “brand dilution” was an acceptable practice at GM, Ford, and Chrysler for several generations, but the practice has had its pitfalls.

More…The cost of rebadging models to cross the entire GM spectrum is much more than you might think be. No, I am not talking about the price of slapping a different name on various models to market them under different brands, instead I am talking about the “cost” to the brand: the consumer’s perception that there isn’t anything uniquely sold with that brand.

I, for one, am okay with General Motors keeping all of its brands, but I would like to see the company distinguish each brand from one another. Only Saturn and Cadillac seem to have a clear identity, with Pontiac and Buick being little more than divisions carrying rebadged versions of other GM cars. Chevrolet, with its broad line up, partially escapes the brand dilution problem but it is often their models which eventually migrate to Buick and Pontiac to be sold as rebadged versions of Chevy vehicles.

Word has it that now GM’s niche division, Hummer, may also branch out. This would be unfortunate as it is the brand’s “nichieness” which gives it an edge.

Here are my suggestions for GM: Keep Cadillac going as it is; don’t mess with success. Distinguish Buick as a true “near luxury” marque…the Lucerne and LaCrosse are both good sellers, but consider bringing back the Regal…yes, you read it right to spark interest.

Pontiac needs real excitement…invest in the GTO and really make it go. Drop all minivans, SUVs, and concentrate simply on sporty models. Chevrolet absolutely needs the Camaro. Also, a potent Impala along the lines of the Dodge Charger would be a big help. Is it too much to ask for an exciting Malibu?

Saturn must keep tapping its Opel relationship in order to affordably distinguish itself from its American counterparts. The SKY is a hit, the new Aura looks hot and the upcoming VUE replacement looks like it’ll sell well.

Leave Hummer alone. Not everyone can or should be able to afford one! GMC will probably plod along as reskinned Chevys. GM could consider dropping GMC and ramping up Chevrolet trucks as the real world leader that it is.

Saab. Pity poor Saab. Neglected and almost not worth keeping. Still, if GM allowed Saab to thrive as Ford has given Volvo plenty of autonomy, then Saab could also make a difference for the general.

I doubt anyone in Auburn Hills is paying much attention to my words. For GM’s sake, I do hope that they are examining this whole brand dilution practice closely and will put something into practice to get the world’s number one automaker moving again.

Brakes First Before Driving 30
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 30th, 2009

2600 deaths each year. About 100,000 injuries that lead to being disabled each year.

These are the numbers from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). And these are simply the statistics for effects of crashes and vehicular accidents on the roads and streets of the United States. And with summer vacation coming up, it means many families and groups of friends would be out on road trips to various places around the country. That is why the NHTSA would like all drivers to check their brakes before they do go out and drive towards any destination.

Brakes are very essential when driving. After all, it is what makes your car stop or slow down when you are driving at top speeds. In fact, your brake is very much part of auto safety. And you should ensure that your brakes are still working well and that all its components are in excellent condition. A damaged brake system could actually cost you, your passengers, or anybody else on the road their lives.

The NHTSA recommends that you should not hesitate to invest in having your car go through an annual brake system analysis. In fact, automobile experts really do suggest that the braking system of your vehicle should be checked once a year at the very least. You should ask a technician to do this. However, it should be just any other technician. You should have the braking system checked by one who has been certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

It also is important that you change the brake fluid of car for every 24,000 miles that your vehicle has traveled. This decreases your chances of meeting car emergencies or mishaps. By keeping your brake fluid fresh, you are sure that it is not contaminated with external fluid that decreases the efficiency of the whole system.

Getting The Right Truck Rental 30
Dec
Posted by admin in Trucks on 12 30th, 2009

Truck rentals are used for moving, for the most part. They are used for the do-it-yourself moving, whether it is in-town moving, or various one-way moves. In-town moving is where the truck will be picked up then returned to the same location in the same town, and one-way moves are where the truck is picked up from one place and returned to another.

The cost of renting a truck will differ depending on the company you are using, amount of miles traveled, truck size, and availability. As most people move on the weekend, it is usually more expensive to rent during that time.

Some companies will rent by the day, for a set rate depending on the size of the truck, where other companies rent by a daily rate and a per-mile rate. Once again, these rates can change depending on the availability and demand.

One-way rentals also are worked out on availability of trucks at the location where you will be picking the truck up, as well as the demand on them where the drop off point is, so price ranges can go up and down. The total number of days and miles you have rented the truck for are established by the departure location, and the destination, with extra days and miles charged.

Typically, you will be required to submit a deposit before renting a truck, which is to ensure that there is no damage to the truck before returning it. Most companies will accept a cash deposit, but some companies will insist on a credit card deposit.

The mandates for taking possession of a truck will vary with each company, but all renters are required to have a valid drivers license.

A lot of truck rental companies will require the person who will be driving the truck to be 18 years old, 21 years old or 25 years old. And the person who actually rents the truck is held fully responsible for the truck in the event of an accident or theft, even if there is another person driving the truck. A few companies do allow more than one person to be insured if it is arranged in advance, and it will usually involve extra fees.

If you want to tow your car, a car carrier will carry your entire car on a trailer which attaches to a place at the rear of your truck. A car carrier is recommended for all-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. A tow dolly is the recommended method for front-wheel drive vehicles. They lift the front wheels of your vehicle off the road, and pull it along behind your truck.

A hand truck or dolly will keep your back from being strained during the lifting of heavy objects into the truck. It will also speed up your moving process by allowing you to carry more items on each trip to or from the truck. You can also use furniture pads, as they will save your furniture from the scratches and dings which can happen during the moving process.

Brake Safety. Some Warning Signs 1 30
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 30th, 2009

Your car’s brakes may need maintenance or repair. When was the last time you checked the brake fluid, or even bothered to think about it? For some reason when it comes to car safety, brakes top the list of systems that need monitoring, however, many people are oblivious to the signs that indicate a problem. You can check online to find out some of the warning signs from sites that are concerned with cars, but there is no better way than to take your automobile to a brake specialist.

At the very least, for both new and used cars, you must have your vehicle’s braking system checked once a year. This should include a thorough inspection of brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems.

Keeping your car in optimum condition is so important and whether it is old or very old, used or new car you might be thinking of trading up or buying something more reliable and with the newest safety features. Online searching is easy, particularly with sites like OzFreeOnline.com where they have thousands of cars classifieds for your inspection. All you need to do is register, become a member, select all the criteria you want for your new car and begin an advance search. Believe me you will be astounded at the numerous amounts of cars you can view online around Australia. Free car advertising is also available to get your used car visible nationwide to get more potential buyers and get it sold fast.

Vigilance is required to alert yourself and recognize the danger signs of brake problems in your automobile. For instance, other warning signs may include an illuminated brake warning light, brake grabbing, low pedal feel, vibration, hard pedal feel and squealing. Sometimes it’s only a few miles between a soft brake pedal and a pedal that goes flat to the floor. You can easily protect yourself from brake failure by watching and listening for a few simple clues. Of course, the only way you can be certain is to have your brakes checked at an authorized workshop such as autobrakeservice.com.au, ABS is the largest brake and clutch specialists and they have workshops in every major city that provides quality services to Australian cars.

Noise is one of the leading indicators that something is off beam with brakes. Any out of the ordinary sound is often a sign that brakes have worn to the point they should be safety checked, so watch for a grinding noise, and if your brakes throw off brake dust on your wheels, look for a sudden increase or decrease in dust. Finding small metal flakes on the wheels is a clear sign that brakes must be checked. Remember, whether its brand new or an used automobile, checking your brakes every once in a while insures you of a safer drive.

Brake Calipers, Car Blogs, and You 30
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 30th, 2009

If you are big fan of the internet, as I am, you likely appreciate having access to much of the information you read online. Where else can you find information that is accurate, easily obtainable, and above all else: free? The library, perhaps. Still, reading some of the car blogs out there can be a risky proposition especially if you are prone to taking everything you read as the gospel truth.

Blogging certainly is fun and it is all the rage. You dont have to know how to design web sites and you dont even have to know how to write especially well. Therein lies the rub. Over the past several months I have had occasion to read information that is not only suspect, but downright inaccurate. Of course, if the writings are simply someones opinion about something that is one thing. However, when the writings give explicit instructions [or leave out pertinent information] on how to fix something, such as brake calipers, those instructions must be correct otherwise the reader could be obtaining information that isnt just factually wrong, but dangerous.

Concerning brake calipers, if you are blogging about brakes, please make certain that when you discuss a brake inspection that you include brake calipers in the discussion along with pads, rotors, ABS, and more. Yes, a reputable mechanic will check all of that out, but diminishing that information in your blog entry can make the reader think that a brake caliper isnt important. Indeed, they are important: brake calipers squeeze the brake pads onto the rotor to stop your car. Over time, brake caliper seals can wear out and your car can lose its braking capability.

I have several rules I follow when reading stuff online, particularly that which is posted on blogs:

1.Who is the author? Is that information given or is it someone simply posting anonymously?

2.Who manages the blog? Does this person know cars or not?

3.What is the source of the quoted information? Is it from another author or is it simply company material regurgitated for all to read?

4.Most importantly: is the site a bad neighborhood? Meaning, is it set up simply to capture cheap pay per click ads and not much else? I have a real problem with any site that is over run with advertising!

Ultimately, if you read something online check its veracity with at least one other source. You can easily google a few keywords and check the results for similar content. Of course, if someone is spreading inaccurate content all over the internet, then you know what the answer is!

Boy Scouts Honor Ford 29
Dec
Posted by admin in Cars on 12 29th, 2009

June 15th this year would be the day when the Boy Scouts of Americas Cascade Pacific Council would be honoring the Ford Motor Company. The company would be given by the mentioned council as the Motorsports Company of the Year. Such an event would take place during the councils 17th annual Motorsports Breakfast which would be held in Portland, Oregon. In fact, this breakfast is actually done as part of the activities and events of the Grand Prix of Portland which is an annual stop of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.

It was Ron Bennett who presented and gave the Motorsports Company of the Year award to the Ford Motor Company. Ron Bennett is one of the members of the Motorsports Breakfast Steering Committee. While honoring the company, he declares, There are many similarities between the Ford Motor Company and the Boy Scouts. The perfect example is the Pinewood Derby. We both exercise imaginations and learn about the trials and tribulations of building the perfect race car. From designing the vehicle, placing the weights and even developing paint schemes, the Scouts prepare for their races in much the same way our engineers test and develop our race cars.

This award is an honor that is recognized well enough by the company. In fact, Jamie Allison, the manager for the Ford Racing Performance Group, had something to say about this. He states, It is an honor to be recognized by the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of Dan Davis, Director of Ford Racing Technology and Ford Racing. It is a great honor for us to be recognized by an organization that has such an impact on the young people of the Portland area and across the country. With the various kinds of awards and accolades that the company has received through the years, this award would be another one that would be part of the companys treasure.
