A new car may not be worth all that money you are planning on spending!
If you are on a really tight budget, and dont care too much about the prestige of having a brand new car, purchasing a used car might be the best option for you. Why do we say that might be the better option?
All you have to do is pick up a used car listing to see that brand new cars lose anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of their original price in as little as two years. Thats a pretty steep number. Heres another number, 65 percent this is the amount you save if you buy a used car that is five years old instead of a brand new one.
Theoretically speaking cars of this age, as long as they have been well cared for will perform just as well and are just as reliable as their brand new counterparts. In fact, they may even be better customized for daily use since it has already been broken in and properly set up.
Of course, you cannot discount the possibility that the used car you are looking at is not in the best of conditions. Therefore when surveying used cars to purchase consult the following tips.
1. Check the Exterior
The first thing to look at is the overall condition of the cars body and finish. Look out for paint blotches and poor body fit. Also look for body filler. You may want to use a simple magnet to help you pinpoint suspicious spots. Finding any of these is evidence of a previous car collision.
Also look out if the car is newly painted. You may want to inquire why this is so. It may mean a major overhaul due to some extensive damage. Rust is a bad sign of body damage, so is dampness in the trunk.
2. Check Suspension
Go to each corner of the car and push down on them. If the car bounces more than once, you may need to have shocks installed.
Try nudging or pulling the wheels from beside the car. If the wheels can be nudged, or if they move in or out, there could be serious damage to the CV joints or the bearings.
If tire wear is uneven, this is indicative of bad suspension. If the car you are checking has new tires, you will have to exercise more caution and test the suspension thoroughly.
3. Check the Insides of the Car
Make sure the upholstery, odor, and condition of the cars interior are acceptable and in line with the age of the car.
4. Take It for a Spin
Have a friend observe you while you take the car for test drive. The car should be stable and should not show signs of shifting from side to side. If so, there could be a major problem with the frame or suspension. If you can, have a mechanic look at it too.

Check out the new Toyota Venza at Bell Road Toyota this fall
Whichever label you want to give it, the new Toyota Venza looks like a winner.
Think of the Venza as a station wagon and you’ll probably get the point. Of course, it doesn’t look exactly like any station wagon we’ve seen before. Unveiled at Detroit’s North American International Auto show in January, Venza drew lots of attention. Among vehicles currently available, it reminds us most of the Ford Edge crossover.
There’s a lot of the Lexus RX350 in this Toyota, too, though the Venza is pressed down closer to the ground, and sleeker. Its front end is taller, but definitely molded in the theme of Toyota’s current Camry sedan. The Venza’s rear glass has a nice, long rake, and its taillights wrap around the rear fenders onto the hatch. Its standard wheels measure 19 inches in diameter, while 20-inch spoked alloys are optional. In sum, the Venza is one of the more handsome, interesting vehicles Toyota has launched in some time.
A look at its dimensions brings the crossover label into perspective. At 109.3 inches and 189 inches, respectively, the Venza’s wheelbase and overall length match both Bell Road Toyota’s Camry sedan and Highlander sport-utility within fractions of an inch. In other words, the Venza’s footprint on the pavement matches both Camry and Highlander closely. Yet with an overall height of 63.4 inches, the Venza slots right in the middle of the Camry and Highlander. It’s ride height falls somewhere in the middle, too.
The 2009 Venza seats five, like the Camry, rather than seven like the Highlander. Its rocker height, or the lip around the bottom of its passenger doors, is low, making it easy to lift feet inside, yet the hip point for seated occupants is higher than the typical sedan’s. The combination should deliver a mix many buyers seek: easy ingress and egress, with a higher seating position for a better view around tall vehicles on the road.
The 2009 Venza should reach showrooms with the traditional model year changeover in early fall 2008. It will be built at Toyota’s assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Consumers have an adversarial attitude towards car dealers, and I can’t say blame them. The retail auto industry has done so many things to create an atmosphere of confusion and intimidation that many car buyers understandably dread the buying experience. Not only do some dealerships encourage their sales staff to engage in dishonest tactics to fleece customers, many have proven themselves to be sexist as well. I always wondered how the salesmen for those particular dealerships came home at night and looked their wives or daughters in the eye.
Being a dealer myself, I have encountered the best and worst that the business has to offer. While my turnover is quite low compared to most, I have hired sales associates with prior experience over the years. I have also fired more than a few of these “professionals” within a week of hiring them. Why, you ask? I don’t mean to sound trite, but I do business by the golden rule. As a result, I won’t tolerate dishonesty on the part of my sales staff or the condescending attitude that I notice many dealers and salespeople take toward their customers. I also refuse to use the dubious tactics that many dealers use to nickel and dime more profit out of every customer that enters their showroom. Now, let me tell you what the results of following the golden rule are… I don’t have an adversarial relationship with my customers.
Sure, more than a few have stepped into one of my sales staff’s offices ready to do battle, but we quickly alleviate their anxiety by doing something that I can wholeheartedly recommend for any business. We give them honest, fair and respectful treatment. I know this might sound like a novel approach in the auto industry, but it’s the only way to do business in my opinion. If more dealerships would stop trying to treat every sale as though it were the last one they will ever make and concentrate on building a good repoire with their clientele, they would enjoy the success that I do. I would bet that my profit margin is, on average, a bit below that of most other dealerships.
Still, I never have a shortage of customers, most of which return for their next purchase. Many of my long term customers will wait for me to find the car they are interested in before buying from another dealership. Why? Because they know that when they drive off my lot, they have been treated fairly and have received a good value for their money. More importantly, I can go home at night knowing I run an honest business and that I can take pride in considering myself part of the community I do business in. That’s worth a lot more to me than a few extra bucks. I wish more of my competitors felt this way as well, because it would benefit our industry as a whole to change our sales philosophy for the better.

The headlights, or also known and called as headlamps, are considered as very important parts of your vehicle. They simply are not just accessories that add to the uniqueness of the overall look and appearance of your car. They are very functional and serve as your guiding eyes and guiding light through various driving conditions that could lessen your visibility on the road ahead. You turn on the headlights of your car during times when the rain is pouring down hard. Or even when fog seems to envelop everything on your way. And when driving at night, it is important to turn them on so you can see through the darkness of the night.
If you take a look at your cars headlights, you would see that there is a bulb inside each one. For most vehicles, halogen bulbs are used. What makes these halogen bulbs in your cars headlights unique from the rest is that these bulbs are commonly made from hard glass or quartz which has been treated with additives. This is primarily because the headlights of most automobiles are made contain plastic parts which could burn or melt because of the high intensity of the heat from the halogen bulb. And the additives that are added actually block most of the heat and output of ultraviolet from the halogen bulb.
These halogen bulbs also do get busted. So you do need to know which kind of halogen bulb your car uses. Buy one if the one in your headlight does not seem to work anymore. You can purchase these from stores that also offer Ford F250 Light Duty pickup parts. Also, check the headlight. If you see a black knob that is small and plastic, it means you do have to purchase a small halogen bulb.
You should unscrew first the black knob and take it out. When you pull it out, you will see that the bulb is already out for it is attached to the knob itself. You can now remove the bulb.
When putting in the new one, remember not to touch the glass of the halogen bulb using your fingers, or else it could cause the new bulb to burn out easily. When you have successfully put in the new bulb, you can put it back into the headlight. Test your cars headlights so you can check if everything is perfectly working.
