Encountering Aggressive Drivers 28
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 28th, 2010

All motorists and drivers know that aggressive driving is something that is never encouraged on the roads and streets. In fact, people would rather have drivers who are calm and cool rather than those who drive with their emotions raging on. Aside from being one of the causes of having other motorists quite hot-headed, aggressive driving also is one of the leading causes of minor and major traffic accidents.

Keeping a cool head and a forgiving heart is one good piece of advice that experts in driving and in the automobile world have for motorists. In fact, by keeping everything cool and calm, there would be most probably lesser accidents and a great decrease in aggressive drivers.

If for no apparent reason, a driver cuts you off on the road, experts suggest is that you still continually maintain a safe following distance. Now, if you feel like you would like to get back at that person, you can always wait until you are home to do some voodoo curses. In the meantime, do not try to tailgate him. That person who cut you off could actually just slam on those brakes if he wants to. And when he decides to do such, you would be running to your car shop and to your insurance company.

Now there are instances when you encounter a driver talking on his cellular phone. He drives with stick shift making him swerve dangerously into your lane. Now, you, on the other hand, have to slam on your brakes to avoid a collision and you are trying to find an escape route. What you do is you try to honk your horn in a polite way. That way, you are alerting the driver that his driving is quite dangerous. Make sure that you keep your distance from her. Do not try to catch that persons eye. In that process, you are actually taking your own eyes off the road.

In the meantime, if you choose to just keep it cool and calm, there are some stores that offer good and quality auto parts. By continually keeping your vehicle in good condition increases your chances of having total control over your vehicle in cases where you meet aggressive drivers. Same Day Car Parts is one of these stores and they specialize in specially crafted parts for vehicle models and makes like Honda parts.

Electric RC Car V/S Nitro RC Car – Making The Choice

At this stage of reading this valuable information, its assumed that you already have a fair understanding of what radio controlled vehicle racing is in general and rc cars racing in particular. If you dont, a good place to start would be to go to our website RCCarsSecrets.com and read the basics about understanding your RC Car. If you already made that journey, then you would be at a stage when you would have to choose the kind of car you want to experience your speed thrills in. Rtc rc cars are a great bet and so are rtc rc trucks. The fundamental choice however is should you go in for an electric rc car or do you want to go for a nitro rc car.

Both types of cars have their own advantages and disadvantages as do rtc rc cars or even rtc rc trucks for that matter. To make that decision you need to do some proper soul searching and identify that one goal that you want to achieve in the world of rc cars racing. The reason for that is quite simple, the skills that you learn coupled with the investments that the sport calls for makes it unviable to broad base ones learning. To put it simply, its better to not become a jack of all trades and a master of none. These are what we believe are the fundamental rules of life applying not just to rtc cars and rc trucks, but to every walk of life!

If you are just starting out and looking forward to honing you skills on the control, then its automatic choice to go in for an electric rc car. They are easier to source, easier to maintain and above all require just a basic ability to handle the controls. This means that steering the car and maneuvering it through a winding track is that much easier and is a good learning ground to understand the nuances of distanced control because you are not physically present in the car steering it. On a softer note, literally, electric rc cars are quieter than any other type of rc cars.

On the other hand, if you already have acquired a fine ability to control your rc cars and want to take your skills to the next level, and also if you are looking for a speed rush, then the nitro rc car is just the right one for you. What makes the nitro car different from the others is its ability to provide extreme levels of acceleration in very short bursts of time. The speed freaks you see all across the town are not only good at what they do, but what makes them that good is the super powerful nitro rc cars they are using.

If you can make your mind now about which rc car to go in for, then the objective of this article has been served!

Did we just hear the revving of your RC mechanical marvel?

Electric Cars ‘Zap’ Rising Gas Prices 27
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 27th, 2010

Tired of paying more and more for gas? Fuel prices this year have been at the highest levels in 25 years, and with world demand for oil higher than ever, they most likely won’t decrease any time soon.

According to Zap, a publicly owned company based in California that manufactures an array of electric vehicles, one of the best ways to beat rising gas prices is to buy and drive an electric car.

Gas cars use about 10 cents’ worth of fuel for every mile, whereas electric cars use only 3 cents’ worth. That means an electric car can travel three times as far as a gasoline car for the same money. Other Zap vehicles, like its electric bicycles, use about a penny’s worth of gas for every five miles and achieve an average fuel efficiency of more than 1,000 miles per gallon.

Driving an electric car is not only good for your pocketbook, it is good for the environment. Electric cars emit 98 percent less pollution than gas cars, even after accounting for power-plant emissions. This can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which scientists say contribute to global warming and climate change.

Electric vehicles start as low as $300 for an electric bike or scooter and $5,000 for an electric car.

Zap also is beginning to market “smart” cars, which are some of the smallest and most fuel-efficient gas cars available. While small cars seem to have become an endangered species in the U.S., Zap is aiming to bring them back into vogue, which can help reduce gas prices and air pollution.

Whether you get an electric vehicle or keep your gas car, one of the easiest things you can do is slow down. The faster you drive, the more fuel your car consumes per mile. If you drive at 70 mph instead of 55 mph, you’ll reduce your car’s fuel economy by 17 percent.

Elderly Drivers Wanted Off The Road 27
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 27th, 2010

A poll was conducted in Great Britain. It asked respondents if they thought that the streets and roads in the country were getting congested. And according to the survey, many Britons thought that this was true.

The poll was created and conducted by one of the Britains online insurance brokers and they did the survey through their website. The survey also asked if these who thought that the streets were congested had any solutions or answers to such a problem. Almost half of the respondents answered by saying that elderly drivers should be taken off the roads during the peak hours of driving. Some 49% of the whole lot gave such a solution to the congestion problem. It did not even make a difference if you used quality Pontiac performance parts for your well maintained vehicle. If you are old, then you should also be off the streets.

Of course, this has been quite a surprise for everybody. Even Paul Cosh, who is the managing director of the organization which conducted the research, could not help but comment about such an outcome of their survey. He says, The impact of congestion on the UK economy in terms of lost time, fuel costs and general stress runs to billions, yet we continue to drive our cars more and drive further than the rest of Europe. However, I do not think that picking on this nations most careful and experienced drivers is really the answer. To be honest, the views shown by this poll are quite shocking and simply do not stand up against the facts.

Analysis of the survey conducted that aside more than half of the drivers who answered the survey said that these elderly drivers should be banned because they believe that the elderly drivers are quite slow when it comes to coping with the new conditions of traffic and of the roads.

Peterbilt Trucks: The Birth of a Legend 26
Feb
Posted by admin in Trucks on 02 26th, 2010

T.A. Peterman had an inner passion: trucks. Despite this fact there was a time when he felt that he couldnt find a truck of his liking and thats when he decided to build his own truck.

In 1939 he acquired the Fageol Truck and Coach Factory. Peterman wanted to have a place where he could modify old trucks at his will and this plant served his purpose. He began to envision the standard that he wanted for his trucks, with this concept in mind he built a truck with the best quality ever seen.

His design began to give him a reputation. He kept manufacturing trucks and branded them Peterbilt (name of a line of wooden doors that one of his companies manufactured).

During World War II, T.A. decided to pursue government contracts for heavy duty trucks instead of assembling combat vehicles. Unfortunately T.A. Peterman died from cancer after the War. Ida, his widow took care of his business affairs.

The direction of the company took a different turn in 1946 when five of the companys main employees and outside investors purchased Peterbilt Motors from Ida Peterman for $450 000.

L.A. Lundstrum was named President of Peterbilt Motors and their development continued; by 1947 their income surpassed $4 500 000 while trucks were manufactured on a daily basis.

Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR) acquired Peterbilt Motors in 1958 as an unincorporated division.

Today T.A. Petermans dream is more alive than ever, Peterbilt continues to progress as new challenges lie ahead. The company maintains Petermans original vision: the manufacture of high quality, innovative heavy duty trucks that surpass customer needs and expectations.

Educate Yourself To Amazing Car Finance 26
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 26th, 2010

When it comes to making a car purchase, paying for it is a big part of the battle. Even mid level new cars run into the $20,000 range. Because of these prices, few people pay cash for cars anymore and statistically about 7 out of every 10 people use car finance to pay for their new vehicle. In order to get the best car finance possible, you need to understand how the whole process work.

First, you want to figure out where you are going to get your car finance. There are a number of institutions that can get you financing. Banks, credit unions, the dealership, or even auto manufacturers can provide financing for your new or used vehicle.

Second, with a car finance, you need to realize that whether you buy a new or used vehicle will affect your financing. As a general rule, interest rates will be lower on new cars than on used ones. Also, new cars can often qualify for financing over a longer period of time than can used cars.

Next, when it comes to our car finance, dont believe everything you see or read. Commercials for special financing for those who are first time buyer or have bad credit abound in papers and on the television. These are usually a little too good to come true and come attached with requirements such as extra high down payments and extremely high interest rates. In some cases, both apply to the loan.

Before you go to get your loan, make sure you know about your own credit history. Get a copy of your credit report and go over it with a fine toothed comb. Look at the score as well as the payment histories on it. If anything at all looks incorrect, make sure you get it cleared up. When a lender looks at how much money to give you, they will check out your debt ratios, how long you have been at your job, your history with similar loans, and your credit report as a whole.

Once you are armed and ready to consider your car finance, shop around. It is usually a good idea to look for the financing before you buy the car. You will better know what you qualify for that way. Also, you can use your information to bargain further with the dealer. In order for them to finance your car, you should ask them to beat the rate you have from wherever else you have looked.

Remember that everything is negotiable. Just because the car finance rate you got is pretty good, it doesnt mean that you have to pay what they ask. Negotiate the rate of your loan, the price of the car, or anything else you can talk to them about. It cant hurt and you could save yourself a lot of money that way. As the process goes on, dont get caught up in the numbers. The dealers will try to give you monthly payment numbers only so that you dont notice any added charges. However, sit down with a calculator and just figure out the payments yourself and you will have nothing to worry about.

Always know that car financing may seem complicated, but it doesnt have to be. Educate yourself, shop around, and make sure you know what is going on and you should have no problem. Better yet, you will find yourself with a great new or pre-owned automobile.

Driving With A Manual Transmission 26
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 26th, 2010

A vehicle equipped with a manual transmission is often known as a vehicle with a stick shift. Not all people do know how to drive with this kind of transmission, however, automobile experts suggest that once you do know how to drive a vehicle with a stick shift, you would be able to learn to drive with an automatic transmission easily. For those who do now know how to drive a stick shift, these experts suggest that you should practice well.

If you take a look at the floorboard of your car, you would actually see three pedals. From the left to the right, these are the clutch, the brake, and the gas pedals in that order. Then, you should study the simple diagram on the top of the gearshift. You will see where the gears are from there. Then, press down the clutch pedal and then move the gearshift into neutral. Start your car now.

Always keep the clutch pedal down as you put the car into first gear by moving the gearshift to the top left position. Then, apply the foot brake and release the parking brake. When you are ready to start moving, release the foot brake. Then, begin to release the clutch pedal slowly and when you start to hear or feel the engine beginning to slow down, slowly press down on the gas pedal as you continue to release the clutch. Expect your car to start moving.

Then start accelerating until your car has reached around 3,000 rpm. And when you have reached that point, take your foot off the gas pedal and start pressing down on the clutch pedal. Pull the gearshift directly down through neutral to second gear and make sure that you pull the gearshift down until it cannot go any further. Then slowly release the clutch pedal gently while simultaneously pressing down gently on the gas pedal. Repeat the whole shifting process each time you get 3000 rpm while driving.

Downshift by releasing the gas pedal of your vehicle each time you actually want to decrease your speed. Just press down on the clutch and move the gearshift through neutral into the next-lower gear. Once you get to the lower gear, release the clutch slowly and brake.

Driving While Drunk Can Now Be Prevented 25
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 25th, 2010

No matter how many advertisements and campaigns have been done by various individuals, groups, or organizations to increase the awareness of the public on driving while drunk, people still tend to get behind the wheel of a vehicle despite the fact that they are already intoxicated. In fact, drunk driving has been one of the major causes of vehicle mishaps, accidents, crashes, and collisions that have resulted to deaths and injuries of drivers and pedestrians alike.

At present, there has been a new kind of technology that has been presented to the public. It is an anti-drunk driving technology and has been foreseen to become a major factor to help out reduce the high number of deaths and injuries caused by the results drunk driving.

A Nation Without Drunk Driving. This is a symposium that will be sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or known as MADD as part of the International DUI (meaning Driving Under the Influence) Technology Symposium that would be held on the 19th and the 20th of this month in Albuquerque, Canada. During this symposium, the latest innovations to help out lessen the number of drunk drivers would be showcased. The list would include alcohol-detecting sensors and anklet devices. These actually test the alcohol levels in the skin so much so that the ignition on their vehicles would lock up in case they do detect that a driver is drunk. All these innovations and technologies would be presented by researchers, law enforcement officers, and criminal justice people.

According to Paul Marques, Ph. D., We have technological solutions that can very likely save lives it is time we started fully using them. Most states and communities could employ this technology right away and see immediate benefits in reducing impaired driving. But they are not doing it. Marque is a senior research scientist with PIRE Public Services Research Institute.

Driving Through The Desert 25
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 25th, 2010

It is important that you do take some time to check your vehicle before you actually go through a journey through the desert. This is because the excess heat on your vehicle could make it act up. Also, you would not want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without any means of communicating for help to anyone.

If you are planning on driving through the desert to some location, automobile experts suggest that you inform somebody about your plans. Let them know when you are going, when you should be expected to return, as well as where is the exact location of your destination.

You should also get a full service tune up before you start on your voyage. You should also bring your car for service at least a week or two weeks before your planned trip. That way, if there are any things that need to be worked on, the personnel could start on it. While at it, have the personnel check your battery terminals for corrosion. If there are, these should be cleaned with a wire brush that has been dipped in baking soda and water. Also add distilled water to your battery if your batteries are sealed.

Go through your tires as well. Inspect for wear. Also, maintain the proper air pressure on your tires. You should know the right amount of pressure by checking your car owners manual. Your radiator should also be checked for leaks.

As per your coolant, check for strength in the radiator overflow reservoir. You should be able to do this using a hydrometer. Make sure that the antifreeze is clean and that it is filled up to the proper level as indicated in your car. Now, if the coolant has not yet been replaced or flushed for the last 15,000 miles, this would be the right time to do so.

Driving On Wet Roads 24
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 24th, 2010

Summer may be coming soon however there is still a chance of having rain. In fact, rain could fall anytime without your knowing. And sometimes, light rain could turn into a torrential downpour that could leave you cold and miserable while driving on some highway.

Rain also is one of the causes of many road accidents. This is mostly because of the road and driving conditions. The roads become slippery. And oftentimes, the rain blurs the visibility of the driver.

After a long dry season and the rain starts to fall, be very careful if you are caught on the road. Engine oil and grease has built up on the road during the dry season. Now when these are mixed with the water from rain, it can make the road extremely slick and slippery.

When it is starting to rain and you have to travel somewhere, make sure that you start driving with a little time allowance. This is because you would not want to start speeding through the roads in the rain. Also, if you need to brake, make sure that you do it with less force. Sudden or strong braking could lead you to skid and you know what else happens after that.

If the rain is pouring harder than you thought it would be and you observe that your visibility is lessened because of the downpour, do not hesitate to turn on your headlights. Added lights could actually help you see the road better and these also assist other motorists to know that you are on the road also. However, do not try to be brave and drive through a great downpour when you simply cannot see the road. Pull over and wait for the rain to subside. There is no harm in doing that. In fact, it could save not only your life but other lives as well.
