SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

Questions to ask yourself before taking your automobile to the shop:

-How and when did you first notice the problem?
-Can you make the problem occur? How?
-Are there any abnormal readings on the instrument panel guages, any warning lights coming on?
-Where is the noise coming from?
-How frequently does it occur?
-Does the problem occur when the engine is cold or hot?
-Is the problem related to vehicle speed or engine speed?
-Does the outside temperature make a difference?

The time it takes for a mechanic to start from square one with your vehicle will cost you precious time and money. Prepare a written description about your vehicle problem using the list above and go over it with your mechanic.

WINTER PREPARATION & PROTECTION

Doors & Locks:
Avoid stuck or frozen doors by lubricating the hinges and wiping a recommended preservative on your car door rubber seals, your parts dealer will know what you need. It’s also a good idea to have a small can of lock de-icer for frozen door locks, keep it somewhere outside your vehicle.

Windshields:
Your windshield not only protects you from harmful UV rays but accounts for 20 percent of the structural integrity of your automobile. You do not want to run out of washer fluid especially during wet snow conditions. Keep the windshield washer reservoir full with WINTER washer fluid and a spare jug in the trunk. Replace wiper blades once a year or when they start to leave streaks across your windshield.

Lights:
Before that big trip check to see that all your lights are operating properly and easily visible to other drivers. If in doubt get your headlights properly aligned. Check your headlights for condensation inside the bulb, this tells you that the bulb is no longer sealed and will fail sooner than later.

Tires:
Check your tire pressure and tread condition. Good ice and snow tires are recommended on all four wheels. Tires have built-in wear indicators that appear as a bald strip when there is 1.6 millimeters of tread remaining. When this limit is reached it is definitely time for new tires!

Engine Service:
Change your oil to 5w30 for winter driving. This grade of oil flows easier and helps your engine start in the cold. Replace the engine fuel filter at least once a year. One tow-truck bill could buy you a lot of fuel filters!

Battery:
Service your battery by getting it load tested and the terminals cleaned. Check your alternator belt. If it fails your battery will no longer receive a charge and soon lose it’s reserve power. Winter driving at night puts a huge demand on your charging system so it pays to get it checked out.

Cooling System:
Get your engine coolant tested and adjusted to prevent the coolant from freezing up. It’s recommended to have your cooling system flushed or coolant replaced every two to three years. Check for leaks in your cooling system with a pressure test. This is a quick check that detects any weak areas. Get your engine fan belt checked. It operates your water pump which circulates the coolant and controls the engine temperature. The engine thermostat should be replaced every two to three years depending on vehicle manufacturer requirements.

These tips are very basic and you are probably familiar with a few of them already. The point is if you go on a trip without checking the simple things on your vehicle there is a possibility of trouble down the road. These checks can be done during a routine service visit which will prevent a major failure.

One point to not overlook is finding a good mechanic you can trust and who knows you and your vehicle. A professional auto repair shop will always advise you before going ahead with extra repairs. You can easily find a reputable repair shop by asking for references and doing a background check with the Better Business Bureau in your area.

Prepare Your Car For Mother Nature 11
Jun
Posted by admin in Cars on 06 11th, 2010

The most recent Farmer’s Almanac calls for a winter season that is unusually cold with plenty of snow. For drivers, that could mean some difficult and dangerous driving conditions.

First, be prepared for winter driving by taking your car to a certified automotive technician, like those at a Firestone Complete Auto Care. A vehicle checkup will help ensure that the engine, battery, exhaust system, heating and defrosting systems are all in good working order, and will make sure that the vehicle’s main fluids are at the right level.

If you are on the road when bad weather hits, there are things you can do to stay safe. First, slow down. Taking it slow gives you more time to stop and improves tire traction.

Try to avoid abrupt movements when braking, accelerating or turning. Never pump the brake pedal on a car with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), since the system itself “pumps” the brakes automatically. ABS is designed to allow you to continue to steer the vehicle while in a panic stop by not allowing the wheels to lock up. Apply firm and continuous pressure to the brake pedal to activate the ABS operation. Always use your headlights to help other drivers see you.

In addition, outfit your vehicle with the right tires during inclement weather. Winter tires, such as the Bridgestone Blizzak, are technologically advanced to handle harsh winter driving conditions.

Winter tires have tread patterns and compounds that reduce the risk of slipping. Deeper treads on winter tires allow the tires to dig into the snow and propel your vehicle through it. Remember, the only part of your vehicle that touches the road is the tire.

Don’t forget to check your tire pressure weekly during the colder months. As outside temperatures drop, the air pressure inside a tire decreases. Check your tires when the vehicle has been driven less than a mile or has not moved in more than three hours.

By following these simple steps you will be better prepared when Mother Nature strikes.

How To Convert Your Car To Run On Water + Gasoline And Double Your Mileage

If you are like many vehicle owners getting annoyed by the amount fuel costs, you need to read further. This is a new way to literally save thousands on your fuel bill.

People around the world in many countries are tired of the high and ever increasing fuel prices

Several sources have claimed that the price of oil will reach $200 per barrel by the end of 2008.
This mean that you have to pay about seven dollars per gallon of gas – which is extremely high and unaffordable.

There are several common alternatives to avoiding this rising price in gas:

1. Use public transportation and sell your car. Many people have converted to using public transportation because it it is cheap but it have it disadvantages. This solution will not work for people who are always using the car to pick up their children, go to work, go shopping, and other various tasks.

2. Purchase a hybrid car. You could also buy one of those hybrid car, but this is not an option for those who can’t afford one. It could cost well over $20,000.

3. Get better gas mileage with your current car. Getting better mileage with your current car is the best option for you. There are many ways to get better gas mileage. Owning your own car and paying less for gas is even better than public transportation or buying a new car.

You could start doing the following to get the best gas mileage:

1. Accelerate slowly.
2. Prevent sudden breaking or acceleration by looking ahead.
3. Keep your speed constant.
4. Maintain your car. Check your oil and tire pressure regularly.

Many of these are very time consuming and in modern day life are not very realistic.

The best solution for you is to convert your car to run on water. This method will save you up to 75% of gas and will double your gas mileage in some case.

It has been proven that water could be used as fuel in order to increase the fuel economy and decrease the pollution. This new technology will cost you less than $200, it is easy to install, maintain and remove. Your engine will runs quieter and smoother, which helps increase your engine life.

Another benefit of using water to fuel your car is that it will prevent pollution.

Thousands of drivers have converted their car to use water as fuel. It is simple, cheap and will save you lots of gas money. Click Here for more details
The benefits of using converting water into fuel:

- Your car life will increase
- Your car will gain power
- You might double the mileage on your car and get a fuel economy increase of up to 75%

Fox News recently broad-casted an interesting and very important video report.
A savvy automobile owner has come up with a very simple yet incredibly efficient way of boosting his old cars gas mileage by up to 100% – that means several thousands of dollars economy every year.

The creator claims that his developed invention converts water into a gas called HHO (2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen). Also called Brown’s gas or Hydroxy burns better than regular gas at our fuel pumps and provides more energy. This process is often referred to as Hydrogen Fuel Cell conversion.

Gas prices are on constant rise and the fuel economy question is starting to get very serious. More hybrid cars are sold all over the world, concepts of electric cars and Hydrogen fuel cell cars are developed in almost any country and finally there is a way for you to add a little something to fuel efficient revolution.

Car owners seem to forget or maybe ignore the fact that they could get better gas mileage simply by changing the way they drive. You do not need to buy an ugly and slow prototype in order to save on gas. You could increase gas mileage of your V8 truck as well! To get better gas mileage you should follow these simple rules;

Accelerate gently. This will use less gas.

Keep your distance – every time you stop you will have to accelerate.

Take your car to a mechanic; simple air filter change or spark plugs replacement could greatly increase gas mileage

Drive slower. Going over 120kph will use up much more gas.

Change gears as soon as possible – low gear uses up to 30% more fuel than needed.

Our cars engines are designed in such poor way that they only burn about 20% of the fuel the other 80% is wasted in heat and unburned gas (pollution). When converted to money at 3$ a gallon per every gallon your car actually uses only 60 cents, and 2.40$ is completely wasted. When you convert your car to run on water, you create a gas which helps burning the fuel in a better proportion.

Instructions on how to convert car to run on water are also available for sale on the Internet. There have been many skeptical people that do not believe in the efficiency of the system but there doubts always vanish after finding out that the instructions come with 2 month full satisfaction money back guarantee.

Is it not only the saving money part that attracts people – when you convert your car to run on water you also increase your cars engine longevity and you greatly decrease the pollution. The system allows you to burn gas more efficiently which decreases the noise of the engine and the wear and tear of the motors parts.

The system is composed by simple parts that are basically bolted on the engine. It could be done at almost no cost, by anyone and to any car. The system is completely untraceable when taken off of the engine.

Just imagine yourself buying half the gas you are buying now! Wouldnt it be nice to have an extra couple of thousand of dollars for Christmas presents? For a vacation? For a down payment on a new car?

I hope this article gave you enough of useful information to consider converting your car to run on water.

More information on HHO Fuel

HHO gas is the latest innovation to increase gas mileage you may have seen it in the news. When you make an HHO fuel cell for you car or truck you will increase power and improve emissions.

Your car will be a water hybrid of sorts by using water. An HHO Generator creates HHO gas and is not exactly zero point energy but you can expect to see and increase in gas mileage of 20 – 50%. HHO gas car kits sell online for hundreds or even thousands of dollars and they are worth every penny! Just think how much fuel savings you would have if per vehicle and if you had a fleet of vehicles the savings could be substantial! If you have a vehicle and you would like to make your own HHO or browns gas kit for your car or truck there is a lot of information available online. How is HHO gas utilized in a gas or diesel engine. This technology can be used both for gasoline and diesel engines providing to help increase mileage.

When you convert your car to burn on water you are converting water to a gas that your engine can use. HHO gas is then inserted before your intake manifolds airflow using your engines vacuum. This gas is then mixed with the gasoline providing better gas mileage. What is amazing is the process is so simple to convert water to gas. The parts to build this homemade hydrogen generator or hydrogen on demand system are easy to procure and most can be found around the home or shop for under $100 per vehicle or closer to $60 if you price shop online! Just think a hydrogen on demand system that costs you less than two tanks of gasoline when you fill up at the gas pump! What is nice is it requires very little modification to your vehicle and can be removed within minutes without leaving a trace. If you have seen HHO gas in use on the news than it is no surprise that this technology actually exists. It is making a comeback due to the rising costs of gasoline. If you have been watching this news this same technology has been used also for generating HHO gas for high temperature welding.

So HHO gas has more uses other than being a gas supplement to increase mileage. There are many forums that focus on experimental HHO gas fuel cells or hydrogen cells also using a device called an aqua pulser that can even make the water fuel cell even more efficient. There are even plans and sources for creating a device that varies the frequency of the current introduced into the fuel cell to help the experimenter generate the most HHO gas.

HHO or browns gas technology is an supplemental alternative fuel source that can help you save gas, reduce emissions, increase horsepower while providing a cleaner and quieter engine. Some are even using this technology on their motorcycles, mopeds, motor scooters, even riding lawnmowers and tractors.

Drive Your Car to Summer Fun 22
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 22nd, 2010

The snow has finally thawed and the cold is moving further away. Summer is coming ever so swiftly that you would not actually notice it until you can feel the heat of the season. However, the shift from the winter and cold days to the hot and sunny weather of summer is something that you would have to consider with regards to your car. After all, driving conditions during winter is a far cry from the driving conditions during the hot and dry months of summer. Just like getting your car ready for winter, you should also get your machine in condition for summer.

Make sure that you first remove your snow tires. They may have worked well during those cold snowy days however they will only wear out faster if you use it on dry roads. You can do this yourself or you can opt to have them removed at some service shop which could be, of course, for a fee.

Check your tire pressure when the tires are cold. This is mainly because you would be getting a different reading if you do this just right after you leave your vehicle up under the sun. Always make sure that they contain just the right amount of pressure.

Remember that there are different engine oil specifications during the hot summer months so make sure that you read your car owners manual and guide. There are specifications there as per which type of oil should work well during the summer.

Make sure that your car battery is in good condition. You see, the hot temperature of summer could actually lead your battery to go under greater stress and strain. You may also want to have it replaced in cases when you are not sure just how long you have had the battery. This would work well especially if you are planning on going on a long trip. And, also check your cars coolant and antifreeze mixture. If your vehicle heats up, it would just mean a delay in your travel.

Do not hesitate to replace any parts that are already worn out or damaged. There are various online stores that offer quality auto parts and one of these is Auto Accessories Giant which is well known for its quality Geo accessories.

Drive To Save: Tips on How to Lessen Car Costs

According to some people, the proper knowledge of chemistry and its effects on gas and fuel could assist you greatly in stretching your dollar. This is because experts in chemistry explain that gas actually becomes denser in cooler temperatures. Now, gas pumps measure the volume of the fuel and not the density, you would be getting a better and greater amount of gas for your money if you purchase this commodity during cold weather. That is the very reason why people offer a piece of advice when buying gas: buy in the early morning or at night. This is when the temperature is cooler compared to the temperature during noon time.

However, this is only a small part of keeping your costs when it comes to driving lower. Automobile experts have come up with tips on how to further reduce your driving costs.

One of the tricks up these experts sleeve is to use the vehicle when only necessary. People have become very dependent on their vehicles so much so that the simple and short trip to the mall would require them to still use the vehicle. This is despite the very fact that one could simply take a short walk to the mall to get there. Or, short trips could also be done by riding a bicycle.

Two percent is reduced from your fuel mileage if your car has under inflated tires. So it would be best to check your cars tire pressure regularly. Experts recommend that you check your tires monthly. If your tires are under inflated, it also means that it is very much prone to wear and damage which is another added cost to driving.

By keeping your speed within the limit, you are actually saving up to 20 percent of fuel. So, be sure that you obey those speed limits. Also, do not accelerate or brake suddenly if not required. These use up a great amount of gas that, when combined, costs you a great deal of money.

Air conditioning also uses up fuel economy from a low of ten percent to a high of twenty percent. It also uses up your battery and drains it. Use the wind during sunny days. It would be more fun to drive with the wind in your hair. Also, excess weight on your vehicle tends to gobble up your fuel. Reduce the amount of cargo or luggage that you have.

Damaged parts also equate to losing gas. This is primarily because the whole car system has to work double time to keep the vehicle running well despite the fact that some parts are not running well. Automobile experts recommend that you replace these parts immediately rather than spend more on gas. Auto Parts Discount is one auto parts store that offers quality parts at low prices. They are well-known for their topnotch Audi parts and accessories.

Don’t Get Stuck Out in the Cold: Prepare Your Car 21

Don’t Get Stuck Out in the Cold: Prepare Your Car for Winter

Who hasn’t slipped and slid across an icy road or struggled to see clearly out of a foggy windshield? The cold winter months bring an increase in dangerous driving conditions. Make sure your car is up to the test.

First, think tires. Avoid that frightening feeling you get when your car has little traction during inclement weather conditions by putting on a set of winter tires. Today’s winter tires are designed for snow and ice performance, with tread that reduces the risk of slipping and allows for better traction. Remember, the only part of your vehicle that touches the ground is the tire.

In addition to the right tires, you also need appropriate car maintenance.

“To help remain safe on winter’s icy roads, adopt good vehicle maintenance practices,” advises Trisha Hessinger, car education specialist and pace car driver. “Firestone Tire and Service Centers offer winter car care tips to help bolster car performance -and driver confidence – during the colder months.”

As in all seasons, make sure tires are properly inflated, rotated, aligned and replaced as necessary. But as outside temperatures drop, the air inside a tire contracts and the pressure is reduced. Therefore, check your tire pressure often during colder months. Underinflation will lessen the gripping action because the tread will not meet the road surface as it is designed to do; this also occurs with overinflation.

Tires should be checked weekly at times when the tires have been driven less than a mile or have not moved in at least three hours.

Other vehicle components that need to be checked by a certified automotive technician include the engine, battery, exhaust, heating and defrosting systems. Also, make sure the vehicle’s main

fluids are filled to the recommended levels.

With regard to fuel, drivers should keep their gas tanks full throughout the winter, as the extra volume can help lessen moisture problems within the fuel system and add helpful weight.

You’ll be thankful for the added driving control and feeling of security that winter tires and the right maintenance will give you the next time you get behind the wheel during a snow storm.

Checking Your Cars Tire Pressure 1
Feb
Posted by admin in Cars on 02 1st, 2010

Your cars tires should have just the right amount of pressure. This may not seem to be a big deal, however, remember that your tires hold a great deal of importance when it comes to your cars performance.

According to automobile experts, your cars tires should have the right amount of pressure because these serve as the medium between you, your car, and the open road. If you do have underinflated or overinflated tires, you would be experiencing much too many rattles and shakes as you drive your way through various types of roads. Also, tires that are not inflated properly give you a more bumpy ride. They also tend to wear down quickly compared to tires that are inflated just right.

Another fact about tires is that when they are overinflated or underinflated, they actually make your car use up much gas. Compared to having a car with tires inflated just right, your car makes use of just the right amount of gas. It even saves you much on your hard-earned dollar for you would not have to spend more on the very high-priced fuel.

To check the your tires pressure, make sure that you do it when your tires have already cooled down. Keep in mind that tires get more inflated when warm for the air inside expands. Then, you should first remove the cap from the valve on the tire that you are checking. Put in and press a tire gauge hard into the valve and take a look at the given reading. You would know if you have inserted the gauge properly if you hear the sound of escaping air.

Then, if you notice that the tire needs more pressure, fill it up. On the other hand, if your car has had just too much pressure, then release the air. You would know the right and recommended air pressure of your tires by checking your car owners manual.

How To Ride A Motorcycle: Beginner Guide 21
Dec

No Claims Bonus is a term used to describe the number of years you have had Car Insurance without making a claim. Put simply, if you have had Car Insurance for 4 years and you have not made a claim in that time, then you have 4 years No Claims Bonus.

Check your tire pressure once a month. This simple maintenance check can add up savings at the gas pump!

Taking lessons will greatly improve your chances of staying safe and accident free since providing you retain what you have been taught, you will be probably better than many motorists who have been driving for considerably longer. Lack of sufficient training, or even no training at all which is common in Ireland, will inevitably lead to accidents at a very early stage in the driving career.

How to Ride a Motorcycle

Riding motorcycles is a puzzle for many people. While millions know how to drive a car, a smaller fraction of the population knows how to ride a motorcycle. However, riding a motorcycle isn’t really a complicated matter once you know the basic principles. It may be totally different from driving a car, but it is definitely something which can easily be learned. Perhaps one most important things that a rider should learn is turning the head. You need to turn your head when you pull out to a road or when you change lanes in order to see what is behind and beside you. You don’t have a rear view mirror when riding a motorcycle and thus this habit could be a life-saving one.

Once you have the engine started and the motorcycle is in neutral, you need to pull the clutch in using your left hand and then click the gear onto the first gear. Slowly release the clutch and gently wind the gas throttle in your direction, this is just enough to prevent stalling. Now you need to wind your throttle a little bit more and then soon enough the bike will start moving.

In 2000, the year that the Focus was introduced, Ford Motor Company had high hopes for the car that was created to replace the popular, but aging Escort. Instead, numerous minor quality problems plagued the vehicle and it soon became the butt of jokes throughout the industry. Want QUALITY bike products from a trusted source? See Salehoo and my Salehoo reviews.

Is there a little stain or a drop of fluid under your vehicle? It may mean absolutely nothing. But you do want to check the wet spots immediately – just to make sure. If, in the early days of your working life you are unlucky enough to find yourself jobless through either, takeovers, cutbacks or closures, a full Driving License will enable you to pick up an interim job very quickly while you regroup and examine your future options.

Now you need to know how to stop. Pull in the clutch while gently pushing your throttle away from you, and then pull the brake in with your right fingers. Keep on practicing moving and stopping so that you will be in control of the motorcycle. Just remember to grip the bikes fuel tank using your knees to secure yourself during the ride, and keep your body relaxed.

Practice until you feel that you are confident enough to increase the motorcycles speed and use higher gears. During the ride, keep your head upright so that you are aware of what is happening around you. Don’t keep on looking at the handles because they will distract you from seeing what is ahead.

When you are braking, it is important to apply more stress to the brake in the front than the one in the back. The rear brake mainly assists the front brake. The stopping power is really at the front. You might need extra assistance from the rear break during wet weather, though. It is actually really simple to ride a bike. The most important thing if for you to combine all the principles together in a very harmonized manner while keeping yourself upright and being attentive to your environment.

Gas prices are getting more and more ridiculous. And its going to keep increasing with no limit in sight! For the new car owners out there, do you know that a gallon of unleaded gasoline used to cost only $1.25? SaleHoo is the leading source for qulity bike products at real wholesale prices. The 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander is available in three models: LS, XLS, and Limited. All come with the 160-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Most models come standard with an automatic, but the base models come with a five-speed manual. Each is available with front-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

The cost of your policy is directly related to this amount. Many people, particularly those who have had their insurance policy for a long time, have never considered whether they ought to vary their deductible. If you have a good driving record and are prepared to increase the risk of paying a larger amount in the event of a (hopefully unlikely) claim you can save money by increasing your deductible.
